born artist, Regina Hona began her painting career in oils in
1980 and is now a full-time professional artist. Some 12 years
ago she embraced her painting with a new intensity after discovering
pastels. Although she still enjoys painting in oils, she loves
soft pastels because of their immediacy and versatility. It has
the advantage of speed and directness, and the smooth, thick
quality of soft pastels produce rich, painterly effects. The
soft and vibrant colours help create varying atmospheres where
she can focus on the effects of light and shade in her subject.
Regina’s subject
matter is diverse and her traditional style leans towards impressionism.
Regina is a pastTreasurer and President of the Pastel Society
of Victoria and conducts regular classes, demonstrations and
workshops.
Her work has been
published in the Pastel International, International Artist
#34 (8-page article) and Australian Artist magazines.
